English Hammered Silver
(x) Kings of All England, Aethelstan (924/5-939), 1h, York, Regnald, + aedlstan rexx, around small cross patteé, pellets in second and third quarters, all within a solid inner circle, rev. tower above a straight horizontal regnald (BSL pl. 7, cf. Blunt and Stewart, Numismatic Chronicle 1983, pp. 146-163, and pl. 23 no.B7 ; N.684; S.1101), extremely fine, attractively toned,
very rare.

The Bossall-Flaxton hoard, discovered in October 1807, contained about 300 Anglo-Saxon Pennies. The coins were dispersed, and many have been traced in 19th century collections.
this one is from those goup, sold from Sothesby and son in 1890.
