Description
Billon denier, 20mm, 1.28 gr. Obv: "tete bleso-chartraine," to the right, three besants, 3 lower bars. Rev: +CARTIS CIVITAS, central cross.
Mint is Chartres
. R5071 as 10th, 11th C; boud 204; Dup 431 as 10th century and first half of the 11th.; PdA 1731XXXIV-2 as AR grand denier. His denier has a weight of 1.36 grams. The sketches in Dup and PdA look much more distinct than this coin. This coin has distinct under bars, in contrast to the short pointed marks shown in PdA's sketch. I think this is most likely 11th C.
