  • Condition: This is a beautiful coin from the time of the Crusades: a gros issued by Bohemond VII, the Count of Tripoli. While his gros aren?t very difficult to find, they?re usually in lower grades. An AU55 definitely qualifies as a more rare find than the norm. Enhancing things further, the reverse is quite clearly double struck. This is most noticeable in the legend and arcs around the five o?clock position. This gros dates to very near the end of Tripoli as a Crusader State. On Bohemond?s death, his sister Lucia became Countess but the city fell to the Egyptian Mamluks just two years later. This coin is #26 in the Malloy catalog ?Coins of the Crusader States?.
