Description
Presented is a sterling silver stuffing spoon of heavy weight made by the Frank W. Smith Company. This piece is in the Newport Shell a.k.a. Puritan pattern, which was patented in 1910. The thick handle has a beaded border and shell accent at the tip. The back of the handle has a monogram of the initials JSR. There is an old post on the back of the spoon. This is original construction. This posts was intended to prevent the spoon from sliding into a large serving bowl or roasting pan.The back is marked with the Frank Smith hallmark, sterling, patented and the retailer Bigelow, Kennard & Company.
This piece is in very good condition. There is surface scratches especially in the bowl. These could easily be polished off. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The spoon measures 11 1/2 inches long and weighs 162.5 grams or 5.7 ounces.
