    Description
Stunning antique early 19th century French sterling silver & gold vermeil 18pc flatware set. Comprising of a 3-piece place setting for 6. Including 7" forks, 7 1/4" spoons and 7 5/8" knives. Ideal for dessert, entremet or luncheon. The handles in a 'Kings' pattern featuring a lovely shell motif, classical fiddle & thread design accented with rosette and foliate. Emanating from the backs of the handles into the bowls of the spoons and tines with coquille shell detail. No monograms. Total weight is 1015.3 grams. This incredible set is fully hallmarked. Hallmarked with the Michel Ange or Michelangelo / Vieillard 1st standard silver mark (.950) and guarantee mark for Paris 1819-1838. Bearing silversmith's mark for Francois-Dominique Naudin, in use from 1800-1840. Naudin was an important Parisian silversmith noted for making very fine flatware. His shop, at 6 Place Dauphine, was very close to La Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame on the Île de la Cité, the island in the center of Paris. Flatware from Naudin's shop would often accompany important services created by Napoleon's imperial silversmith Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot. Russian Tzar Alexander II owned 'Queens' pattern pieces by Naudin. The blades on the knives bearing the maker's mark of the cutler. The set is in overall good antique condition with general signs of age and use. One knife blade has a small flaw to the very top of the blade as shown. The set is housed in a wooden presentation box. I do not know if the box is original to the set, however it offers a lovely display when open. The lid does not close completely, lacks a key, there is an age split to the lid and chipping to the veneers along the sides. Box measures 11" x 9" x 12 5/8".
