Description
Presented is a great set of 7 sterling silver bright cut teaspoons. Three of the spoons are made by Towle Silversmiths and done in the No. 43 pattern which was first produced in 1882. These spoons are engraved ‘Shinn’ on the reverse. The other 4 spoons are made by A. F. Towle & Son, an off shoot of Towle Silversmiths which was in business from 1890 to 1902. These spoons are engraved with bright cut flowers and leaves on the front of the handles and an S monogram in Gothic script on the back of the handles.The first three spoons are stamped on the reverse with a maker’s mark for Towle Silversmiths, Sterling, and L. Decker for the retailer. The other four spoons are marked on the reverse with a maker’s mark for A. F. Towle & Son and Sterling.
The condition is excellent. The decoration is very sharp and crisp. There are some light surface scratches on the bowls, but this is quite minor. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
Four of the spoons are 5 3/8 inches and three of the spoons are 5 3/4 inches long.
The weight is 124.4 grams or 4 ounces.
