    Description

Presented is a fine quality set of 12 sterling silver gumbo or large round soup
spoons made by Whiting. These are the largest round soup spoons made in this
pattern.  Two of the spoons are by Birks but are in the same pattern and were
made right around the same time. The spoons are in the lovely Louis XV pattern,
which was patented in 1891. This set is old, production. Each handle is
decorated with beautiful, flowing scroll border. The monograms on the spoons are
as follows: 1 has no monograms, 6 have the initials NJB, 1 has the letter P, 2
have the letter J and 2 have the letter S.
The 10 Whiting spoons bear the Whiting hallmark, sterling and patent 1891.
Some have retailer’s marks for A. Stowell & Company and some for Hardy &
Hayes. The other two spoons are marked Birks and sterling.
This set is in excellent condition. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits,
no monogram removals and no repairs.
Each spoon measures 6 3/4 inches long and the combined weight of the set is
    492.5 grams or 17.4 ounces.
